DC SWOT Analysis: Delhi Capitals earlier known as the Delhi Daredevils have never been consistent in their first few years of the IPL, however, they emerged successful in 2019 as they came back with a new franchise name Delhi Capitals. The Capitals ruled the IPL league table from 2019 to 2021 but could not qualify for the playoffs in 2022 even after their significant performance in IPL 2022.
Strengths
Delhi’s most promising and eminent players are in the opening pair of the capitals. The dynamic and vibrant Mumbai cricketer Prithvi Shaw opens for the capitals alongside the pocket bomb David Warner. These two are the most comprehensive opening pair among recent franchises and are most suitable for the shorter formats as they are both quick run-getters.
Another strength of the Capitals is in their reliable set of all-rounders, which includes Mitchell Marsh and Indian spinner Axar Patel. Both are big hitters of the cricket ball and can smack the ball for sixes all around the park. Patel also has a good hand at bowling quality 4 overs.
DC middle order is also eminent, they include Manish Pandey, Yash Dhull, Sarfaraz Khan and Rovman Powell. DC’s batting is strengthened by their chemistry, as Prithvi Shaw, Yash Dhull and Sarfaraz Khan all 3 batters spend a long time playing together for Mumbai in the Indian domestic circle.
Weaknesses
The Delhi Capitals have an eminent pace bowling attack, especially their overseas bowlers like Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman but hardly one of them can feature at a time in the Delhi squad.
Therefore, despite having eminent pacers the Capitals are short of experienced pacers in the team as their Indian Pacers like Mukesh Kumar and Chetan Sakariya do not have much experience in such a platform featuring multi-nation players.
Opportunities
The first opportunity is for Prithvi, who has just ended his absence on the national side after 2 years of exile from international cricket. Shaw can prove his merit in the upcoming season of the IPL and this would help him to seal his spot at least in the T20 side, as there is a new and for aggressive batters like him in the Indian squad.
This IPL would also be an opportunity for Yash Dhull to showcase his talent. Dhull already had a glorifying year in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy while playing for Mumbai and he would look to continue his recent surge in the IPL and would eye India selections.
Threats
The biggest menace for the Delhi Capitals is their injured skipper. Capitals skipper Rishab Pant suffered from a severe injury in a road accident and it would be very difficult for him to return to the field even after his recovery from the injury.
Capital’s most promising pacer in the last season, Khaleel Ahmed is also detached from the field due to his leg fracture and has shown no signs of recovery till now.
There is another matter of concern for the Capitals as their star player David Warner is going through a bad patch of form alongside their new inclusion Rilee Rossouw who is also out of form since the T20 World Cup.
