Despite the early loss against Australia Women by a small yet disappointing margin of 9 runs, India Women had a brief sight of hope in the Women T20 World Cup. And to everyone’s surprise, India had to rely on arch-rivals Pakistan on whether they could beat New Zealand to level up all points for India and their immediate opponent side.

Pakistan dared to do the most unbelievable, as they restricted New Zealand who were put to brought first and were restricted to a minor 110 in their 20 overs despite having dropped 8 catches in the match.

However, the Kiwis had begun their campaign with a thumping historic win against the Indian women, one of the favourites before the start of the tournament in the UAE. The Blackcap women went on to win their final group stage match against Pakistan women and have been placed into the semis alongside neighbouring nation and World defending champions, Australia Women.

However, Pakistan needed to chase the score of 111 within 11.3 overs to qualify for the final or defeat the Kiwis in order to extend a helping hand to India for giving them a step to their victory. Instead, they were bowled out for a minor 56 runs, which allowed the team to go ahead in the T20 World Cup. Rather in their quest to score quick runs, Pakistan kept losing wickets and hence the game went comfortably in favor of the Kiwi women.

For India’s loss, their performance has also been criticised as they have missed many on-field catches, though Australia still managed to score enough runs, despite the absence of their skipper Alyssa Healy. India Women also missed a number of on-field catches as well as a run-out.

In return without much support from the best of the Indian batters, the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a huge role in India’s dominating innings of 142 runs, where they lost by a nominal margin of 9 runs to end their hopes for the knockouts of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
