Sairaj Bahutule will be India’s interim bowling coach on the Sri Lanka tour. Team India are set to play three ODIs and three T20Is on their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The series will start with the first T20I on July 27, while the ODI series will begin on August 2. All three T20Is will be played in Pallekele, while ODIs will take place in Colombo.India will travel to Sri Lanka with a complete new setup. Suryakumar Yadav will be the T20I captain, while Gautam Gambhir will be the head coach.
T Dilip has been retained as bowling coach, while former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar and the Netherlands’ star all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate will be the assistant coaches. Former South African pacer Morne Morkel will be the bowling coach, but he will join after the Sri Lanka tour. That’s why India have picked Sairaj Bahutule to be the interim bowling coach for the IND vs SL tour.
IND vs SL: Who is India’s Interim Bowling Coach Sairaj Bahutule?
Morkel is all set to become India’s bowling coach, but he won’t be available for the coming IND vs SL tour. Hence, the BCCI has named former Mumbai bowler Sairaj Bahutule as the interim coach for the tour. He was an established all-rounder on the domestic circuit.
His appointment has come as a surprise because fans are curious to know who Sairaj Bahutule is. He is a bowling all-rounder who has represented India in two Tests and 8 ODIS at the highest level. Though he couldn’t get success in international cricket, he was very good at the domestic level.
He has been a key contributor to Mumbai cricket, along with Wasim Jaffer and Amol Mazumdar. Sairaj Bahutule has played a total of 188 matches at the first-class level and scored 6176 runs, which includes nine hundred and 26 half-centuries. As a leg-spinner, his numbers with the ball are even better.
He has taken a total of 630 wickets, which puts him on the list of greats in Mumbai cricket history. Not many would know; he is the spin-bowling coach for the 2008 IPL winner Rajasthan Royals and will now be helping the Indian bowlers in the IND vs SL tour.
