IND vs ENG 3rd TEST: On Day 3 in Rajkot, why are Indian players sporting black armbands? The reason behind India’s players’ black armbands on the third day of the third test match in Rajkot Stadium. On the third day of the current third Test between India and England in Rajkot, players from Team India will be sporting black armbands.

The BCCI said on Saturday (February 17) that Rohit Sharma and his teammates will be wearing the armbands as a show of respect for former India captain Dattajirao Gaekwad.

At the age of 95, Gaekwad, the oldest Test cricket player in India, passed away on February 13. He reportedly passed away at Baroda Hospital from age-related illnesses.

Between 1952 and 1961, he played 11 Test matches for Team India. In 1959, Gaekwad was again in charge of the team when they toured England. In tests, he amassed 350 runs, his best being a 52.

He worked for Baroda in the domestic circuit from 1947 to 1961. Gaekwad amassed 5788 runs overall in first-class cricket thanks to 17 centuries and his top score of 249 points. In the 1957–58 season, he also guided Baroda to the Ranji Trophy victory.
