Historic Super Over in T20 World Cup 2024 Opener: Namibia vs. Oman: The opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 saw a historic Super Over between Namibia and Oman. Both teams performed equally well, leading to a tie and necessitating a Super Over.
In the Super Over, David Wiese and Gerhard Erasmus took full advantage of Bilal Khan’s pace, scoring 21 runs for Namibia with four fours. Wiese, who scored 13 runs off 4 balls, also excelled with the ball, conceding only 10 runs and taking the wicket of big-hitter Naseem Khushi.

Oman Battles to Tie the Match
Defending 110 runs, Bilal Khan gave Oman a perfect start by dismissing opener Michael van Lingen for a duck on the second ball.
Despite facing uneven bounce, Nikolaas Davin and Jan Frylinck managed to keep their wickets, with Namibia at 32/1 by the end of the powerplay.
Captain Aqib Ilyas brought in spinners and medium pacers to slow the scoring. Davin countered Aqib’s spin but was eventually caught by Mohammad Nadeem after hitting a six.
Disciplined bowling from Aqib and Zeeshan Maqsood slowed Namibia’s run rate. Despite several missed catches, Maqsood eventually dismissed Erasmus (13) in the 15th over.
Frylinck then leveled the score with consecutive boundaries, but Mehran Khan’s brilliant 18th over, which included the wicket of JJ Smit, left Namibia needing five runs from the final over.
Mehran bowled Frylinck and trapped Zane Green (0) LBW in the first three balls of the final over. With two runs needed off the last ball, Wiese and his partner managed a bye, sending the match into a Super Over.
Trumpelmann’s Special Run for Oman
Namibia’s captain, Gerhard Erasmus, won the toss and opted to field. Oman’s Aqib Ilyas was confident in batting first, expecting good conditions.
However, Ruben Trumpelmann went on the offensive, dismissing opener Kashyap Prajapati LBW with an accurate yorker on the first ball. Trumpelmann then bowled another yorker to get Aqib Ilyas out LBW.
Trumpelmann took his third wicket in his second over, with Naseem Khushi caught by Erasmus at mid-off. Veteran Zeeshan Maqsood steadied Oman’s innings, but Bernard Scholtz dismissed him LBW in the seventh over.
Consistent bowling from Scholtz and Erasmus kept Oman’s lower order in check, and they struggled to score.
Oman failed to hit a boundary between the 10th and 17th overs. They attempted to increase the scoring rate in the death overs, but David Wiese and Trumpelmann kept the pressure on, ultimately bowling Oman out before completing their quota of overs.
