England vs Australia: England interim coach, Marcus Trescothick has opened up on managing Jofra Archer’s workloads cautiously since he is again being considered for a red-ball comeback.
England’s one of the quickest and deadly pacers, Jofra Archer has often suffered intense injury battles which has shortened his very bright career. He has made a comeback to international cricket since last year, as he starred this time in only two games since the World Cup in the Caribbean.
Since, the end of The Hundred, he played one for Sussex in the quarter-final of the T20 Blast and the first T20 at the Rose Bowl at Southampton. He could have played the third international T20I, though it was washed out due to rain in Manchester.
Archer after his return after missing the World Cup in India, was an eminent part of June’s T20 World Cup team for India that went into the semis, he was their joint-highest wicket-taker in the competition.
He has always proven why England has invested in him despite his struggles, as he faced back injuries leading to surgery and then concerns with the elbow of his bowling hand as well, though Archer never saw a considerable drop in his pace.
Even in his last outing for England, he bowled decent low-scoring overs in front of the heavily attacking Travis Head, while showing exemplary skills of death bowling, after he dismissed Abbott and Bartlett on successive deliveries, as he cleaned them up with nearly unplayable yorkers.
Archer has been named in England’s 15-man squad for the ODI series against Australia, this will mark his return to the format following a rest of almost 18 months. However, England coaches and the ECB management have shown keen interest in bringing Archer back for red-ball action.

“It’s discussed long in advance of picking the team on each day. We know what we’re doing with him, and where we’re going. He’s comfortable: he knows what he’s doing.” Said Trescothick, England’s interim head coach.
Trescothick will be a part of England’s ODI series against Australia as their interim head white-ball coach and also work as McCullum’s deputy for the Test series in Pakistan and New Zealand in 2024 and then their white-ball tour to the Caribbean in 2025.
“I’m directing it in a way that I know will be very similar to when he comes in,” Trescothick said. “He’ll talk the same way, manage in the same fashion, and debrief in the same way.
