CWC 2023: After the start of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 being played on Indian soil, it has now turned towards an exciting as well as struggling journey.
After the opening matches, the ICC ODI World Cup’s leading contenders, Team India and the five-time champion Australia, faced off in their first showdown in Chennai on Sunday. Ahead of the match, the Indian team revealed that their star opener, Shubman Gill, had contracted dengue fever.
Who will have to remain under the supervision of the medical team, due to which the Indian team will have to take the field without Gill.
However, Gill’s replacement, young cricketer Ishan Kishan, did not bat against Australia on the Chennai ground and he was out on zero.
But Gill’s deficiency was compensated by the dashing Virat Kohli and KL Rahul remained fine till the end and won the match by six wickets.
Update on Shubman Gill’s health before the Afghanistan match
Star batsman Shubman Gill will not be able to play again for his team in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup match against Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Shubman Gill is suffering from illness.
India issued a statement on Monday advising that the right-handed batsman will remain in Chennai and will not travel to Delhi for the host team's next World Cup match
.
"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be traveling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023," the statement read.
"The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October.
"He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team."
