Can India Women Still Qualify for semi-finals after losing against Australian Women? 

The Australia Women’s National Cricket Team scripted history by chasing down the highest target even in Women’s ODI’s and defeated Indian by 3 wickets. This thrilling match ended in style, as it recreates the 2023 World Cup Final moment when Australia defeated India in front of more than 1 Lakh Indian crowd.

India Women’s National Cricket Team set a huge target of 3330 runs after a strong batting performance. Smriti Mandhana played a fiery knock and scored 80 runs off 66 balls whereas Pratika Rawal also contributed with a steady 75 runs knock. Their opening partnership was of 155 runs and both led India to get early momentum in the game.

Other batters alos contributed, Harleen Doel (38), Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (22), Jemimah Rodrigues (33) and Richa Ghosh (32), they led India to set a target of 330 runs in 50 overs. The Australia Bowler Annabel Sutherland was the only bowler who was effective from their side, she took 5 important wickets.

However, in response Australia had to chase a big 331 runs target to win this crucial game and they started on a positive note, Australia’s captain Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfiedl gave excellent start to the team. Alyssa Healy played a magnificent innings of 142 runs off just 107 balls. She played aggressive strokes and shifted the game;s momentum in favor of Australia.

Phoebe Litchfield also contributed with her innign yet impactful inning of 40 runs. Other Australian star players, Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner played 47 and 45 runs inning, respectively. Perry retired hurt in the middle of the inning but later she came and finished the match in style by hitting six on the last ball. 

What Went Wrong for India Women

India Women’s middle order once again failed to deliver under pressure, After strong starts, they could have capitalized and made the scoreboard around 400, which would have been impossible for Australian Women to chase. The Indian bowlers were also in pressure as Australian batters were hitting on loose balls and kept rotating strikes.

Aussie Handled Pressure Again!

What separates Australia from the rest is their ability to stay calm in tense moments. India had a very good start and they made plenty of runs but Australia stuck with their plan and easily chased the target.  

With this victory, Australia Women jumped to the top position in the latest ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Points Tabe with seven points and a net run rate of +1.353. India Women is still at third spot with 4 points but the net run rate decreased to +0.682 which might trouble them when others are also competing for semi-finals in close margins.

How can India Women make it to the semi-finals

As of now, the India Women’s National Cricket Team has three matches left, and they need to win all of them to remain in contention for the semi-finals. However, despite winning all the games, their chances will highly depend on the performance of other teams.
