Brian Lara picks Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as two Indian batters to break his 400-run record

Brian Lara picks players who can break his record. Cricket is a stats-driven game, and over the years, there have been some incredible stats which have been registered in this sport. Some records seem impossible to break. One such record which has stood tall for almost two decades is Brian Lara’s 400 runs in a test inning. The left-hander holds the record for the highest individual score in international cricket, making 400 not out against England in 2004.

It looks like an impossible task to reach close to that score because cricket has become even faster now. Teams prefer to play quick, and the temperament of modern-day batters has changed. But every record is meant to be broken. So will there be anyone who can come close to making 400 or even break it in Test cricket? Who other than Brian Lara himself reveals the same?

Brian Lara, who has crossed the 370-run mark twice in the Test format, said that there were a few players of his time who threatened him with breaking that 400-run record. The West Indian legend said in an interview with the Daily Mail, that Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Sanath Jayasuriya and Inzamam ul Haq were aggressive players and had the skills to break that record. Notably, a few years ago, not many thought that someone would break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds, but Virat Kohli did it. Hence, Brian Lara’s 400 is also in the same bracket. It looks difficult, but anything can happen.

That’s what Lara himself said, and he picked two English and two Indian players who have the ability to break that record. He picked Zak Crawley and Harry Brook from England and Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill from India, who can do that.

Brian Lara said, “How many aggressive players do you have playing today? Especially in the England team. Zak Crawley and Harry Brook. Maybe in the Indian team? Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill. If they find the right situation, the records could be broken—both of them.

England are currently hosting West Indies for a three-match Test series. India will play a Test series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia in the coming six months. Gill has established himself as a potential future star, while Jaiswal has had a brilliant start to his Test career and has smashed two double hundreds already.
