As per recent reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for a batting coach for the Indian Cricket Team to work under Gautam Gambhir. In this context, former English batting legend Kevin Pietersen showed his prior interest in working with the Indian team under Gautam Gambhir and Co.
In the recently concluded series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as well as the last series played against Sri Lanka on their soil, India faced humiliating batting collapses. India not only failed to score runs but at times lacked stability as well, as they could not even see off an inning or occasionally a full day of test cricket.
As of now, India does not have a batting coach in their camp, while they have Morne Morkel as a specialized bowling coach and several assistant coaches in-house. To fill up this coaching expertise in the batting department, a new man is needed in the position.
In addition to Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan Ten Doeschate serving as assistant coaches, Morne Morkel is responsible for the bowling department, while T Dilip oversees fielding.
Kevin Pietersen’s stats as a batter
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic and skilled batters in the history of the game. He is widely known for his wide variations in strokeplay while often regarded as the inventor of the switch hit, a shot that changed the dynamics of the modern game.
However, despite his reckless shots and aggressive intent, Pietersen was one of England’s most reliable batters, hopefully one of the most skilled modern players who could add stability as well as intent to an inning.
In 342 innings, the right-handed batter scored a total of 13,797 runs with an average of 44.07 across all three formats. He managed to score 32 centuries and 67 fifties in his entire career.
