Asia Cup 2025: The Bangladesh tour has been postponed till next year due to the political situation in the country. With this, the future of the Asia Cup 2025 also remains uncertain till now. In such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is making alternative plans to use the window from mid-August to September.

After the Pahalgam attack, tension has once again arisen between India and Pakistan, due to which questions are being raised on the possible match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup. The BCCI has not yet taken a final decision regarding India’s participation and is waiting for the permission of the central government.

Asia Cup 2025: The Final decision will not be taken without government approval

Although BCCI is the official host of Asia Cup 2025, the final decision on this event has to be taken by the Government of India. According to a report by Sports Tak, the BCCI has already kept the UAE as a backup option in case it is not possible to hold the tournament in India.

The BCCI has sent the proposal to the government and is waiting for its approval. As per the proposed schedule, the tournament is scheduled to begin on September 5 and the India-Pakistan match is scheduled for September 7.

A senior BCCI official said, “The proposal to hold the tournament in the UAE was prepared even before the Pahalgam attack. Now the situation has changed, so whatever decision the government takes, we will follow it.”

Asia Cup 2025: Tri-Nation series could be an option

If the Asia Cup does not get the green signal from the government, the BCCI is already considering a tri-nation series. In this window, India was to tour Bangladesh and also host the Asia Cup. In such a situation, the board wants to ensure that Team India plays competitive cricket before the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.

Originally, India were scheduled to play a three-ODI and three-T20I series against Bangladesh in August, but now after that was cancelled, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has offered India a bilateral series.

If a bilateral series with Sri Lanka takes place, it may also see the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from Test and T20 cricket. However, the BCCI is still considering the proposal and wants that if the Asia Cup is not possible, then that time should be used to organize a big tournament.

The BCCI has also been approached by other international boards for a triangular series, and if the Asia Cup is cancelled, it is possible that India will organize a big mini tournament.

This time the Asia Cup is to be played in T20 format, which is considered to be an important preparation tournament for next year’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026. A final decision on this will be taken in the coming weeks.

Conclusion

The recent tension in India-Pakistan relations has put Asia Cup 2025 in jeopardy. The BCCI has already started its preparations and may move towards organising a tri-series if it does not get the government’s approval. Now all eyes are on the government’s final decision.
