Pakistan’s women’s cricket team has continued their impressive recent performance by achieving their first-ever series sweep over South Africa in Karachi.
This remarkable achievement is a testament to the team’s dedication and talent, and it marks a significant milestone in their cricketing journey.
The Asian side sealed this remarkable achievement with yet another impressive performance, securing a six-run victory in the third and final match of their three-game T20I series against South Africa.
This victory marked the first time that Pakistan has won all three matches against South Africa, resulting in a 3-0 series scoreline. Notably, this series was the debut series in charge for the new captain, Nida Dar, adding an extra layer of significance to the achievement.
Captain Nida Dar set a strong example with her well-compiled 36 runs during the middle overs, and she partnered effectively with Sidra Ameen, who contributed 39 runs, and former captain Bismah Maroof, who also scored 39 runs.
Their combined efforts helped Pakistan reach a total of 150/5 after they were asked to bat first by South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt.
Laura Wolvaardt played a pivotal role in the Proteas’ run chase with an impressive 72 runs. However, her dismissal by Sadia Iqbal in the penultimate over left South Africa agonizingly short of reaching the target for victory.
Despite Wolvaardt’s strong effort, Pakistan managed to defend their total and secure the series sweep.
Laura Wolvaardt was rightfully awarded the Player of the Series for her outstanding performance, amassing a total of 157 runs at an impressive average of 52.33.
Nashra Sandhu and Sadia Iqbal shared the honors as the joint leading wicket-takers, each taking four wickets during the T20I series.
The cricketing action is set to continue as the two teams will come together for a three-match One Day International (ODI) series in Karachi.
The first ODI will kick off on Friday, September 8, promising more exciting cricket encounters between Pakistan and South Africa.
