Asia Cup 2023: Venue Likely to Change. PCB To Remain Hosts. UAE is an Option.

Here is a quick update about the hosts for the Asia Cup 2023.

Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cup 2023 and its venue still hang in the middle. The Pakistan Cricket Board has the right to host the tournament but the BCCI has once again made it very clear that the Indian Cricket Team will not be allowed to play in Pakistan. The decision now remains in the hands of the ACC (Asian Cricket Council). This board is headed by Jay Shah the Joint Secretary of the BCCI. Here is a look at the latest updates with regard to this matter:

Indian Cricket Team will not Travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023:

The BCCI had a meeting and one of the sources revealed that the BCCI’s stand remains the same and that it will not allow the players to play in Pakistan. The reason for the same was is the fact that even if the BCCI provides a clearance, the “Indian Government will not issue the required NOC and other documents concerning the security of the players.” The BCCI has no issue with PCB being hosts of the tournament but the security of the players is an issue.

PCB can Host the Asia Cup 2023 at Any Other Venue:

Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Abu Dubai are the most likely venues to host the Asia Cup 2023 games. It was in 2018 that the tournament was last played here. The BCCI has made it very clear that the players will not be traveling to Pakistan. So, the best choice for the PCB is to host the tournament in the UAE if they do not want to lose out financially as the maximum revenue in cricket is generated from the Indian viewership.

The topic of the venue for the Asia Cup 2023 is currently on hold. The Asian Cricket Council will be discussing the same in March and a venue for the Aisa Cup 2023 will be decided.

A BCCI official when enquired about the situation regarding the tournament venue had the following to say, “The Indian government will not permit the Indian team to travel to Pakistan. The BCCI has tried to make other boards understand the situation. So, everyone thought to wait for one more month.”

The following is the official statement released by the ACC, “The ACC had a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines, and any other specifics to ensure the success of the tournament. An update on the matter would be taken on the next ACC Executive Board Meeting to be held in March 2023.”
