Indian pacers ruled out due to injury from IPL 2025, with replacements announced ft. Shardul Thakur
Shardul picked as backup for recovering Mayank Yadav for LSG

This edition of the IPL 2025 has already faced many big blows before the beginning of the season, as several star players have suffered due to unforeseen injuries that gave the franchises a huge blow before the onset of the 18th edition of the prestigious tournament.

Especially, the Lucknow Super Giants faced a huge setback, with several players from their pace deck suffering injury issues. Reports earlier claimed that LSG’s retained players Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan have been declared unfit for the upcoming season of the IPL by the NCA.

The IPL is all set to begin on the 22nd of March, with LSG supposed to play their first game of the season on the 24th of March against the Delhi Capitals. Avesh Khan, one of the pacers of the LSG pace trio, is supposed to be fit and starring for the IPL.

Though some reports have indicated a possible return for Mayank Yadav as well, nothing seems assured as of yet. Hence, two previously experienced IPL campaigners have been picked for the IPL franchise LSG as backups for the upcoming season.

Reports that claimed Mayank and Mohsin’s possible ruling out of the IPL season have also claimed that Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi might be included in the LSG lineup. Both these players went unsold in the mega-auction of IPL 2025.

Shardul previously starred for CSK, DC, and KKR and has played 92 innings, picking up 94 wickets while also scoring 307 runs at a healthy strike rate of nearly 140. Shardul’s performance was also very convincing in the Ranji Trophy when he stood alone for his side, Mumbai, on several occasions. Shivam Mavi, on the other hand, has picked 30 wickets in 32 IPL games.

KKR faced a huge setback with Umran Malik ruled out of IPL 2025

Kolkata Knight Riders’ pace deck looked very convincing despite them leaving out their most experienced and costliest bid, Mitchell Starc, from last season. KKR retained India’s rising sensation Harshit Rana and picked the likes of Spencer Johnson, Anrich Nortje, and more to adorn their pace deck.

However, Indian speedster Umran Malik, often known for his bullet speed, gathered the attention of fans with just INR 75 lakh. However, now the player has been ruled out due to injury and replaced by their net bowler, Chetan Sakariya, the left-arm seamer.

The youngster will star in his third IPL franchise after having represented Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals in the previous editions of the IPL, for whom he has played 19 games, while also starring for the Men in Blue in 2 T20Is and an ODI.
