IND vs AUS: Australians have announced their playing 11 for the Boxing Day test at the MCG, as Pat Cummins, the skipper, in the press conference revealed Travis Head to be fit to appear in the MCG test.
The Aussies had announced several changes to their squad for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they brought in young batter Sam Konstas to replace Nathan McSweeney. Beau Webster, the all-rounder, also found a place in the squad, while Jhye Richardson, the speedster, has been brought in in place of the injured Josh Hazlewood.
As George Bailey conveyed earlier, Konstas’s debut would only be confirmed if Cummins declared him in the playing 11 on the day of Christmas. What could be a better Christmas gift for the 19-year-old, as Cummins delivers him the best gift as his supposed Santa?
Scott Boland, who in his last Boxing Day test played, had some startling spells, as he picked up 6 wickets for just 7 runs against England. Boland also played the pink-ball test, where he picked up five wickets in the two innings he bowled for Australia in a winning cause at Adelaide in this BGT.
Scott Boland makes a return to the playing XI as a replacement for the injured Hazlewood, while Sam Konstas, the youngster, gets his first major outing at the top against a fierce bowling unit headed by the legendary Jasprit Bumrah.
Australia’s playing XI: Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Scott Boland.
