IND vs AUS: India is busy playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will create their chances for the third consecutive WTC final appearance. With India facing continuous troubles with the bat, there has been much doubt over skipper Rohit Sharma’s batting position.

Since the skipper missed the opening test at Perth against Australia and KL Rahul opened the innings, the skipper on his return demoted himself down the order at no. 6. However, neither could Sharma capitalize lower down the order nor could Rahul hold onto his stunning form in the second test.

After Rohit repeatedly failed to perform at no. 6 in the Adelaide Test, several players, like Ravi Shastri and the great Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, had his back, saying he is best in what he does when he comes up the order.

Sunil Gavaskar immediately after the match tweeted to let Rohit Sharma open the innings from the Brisbane test. Next, Ravi Shastri claimed that Rohit is best at giving the first punch with early dominance in the beginning overs of an innings.

Ricky Ponting said, “I felt that if Rohit was coming back into the side, he should have gone straight back up to the top and opened the batting. That’s how I felt about it—I know that KL and Jaiswal had a 200-run partnership in Perth and they had played well, but Rohit is your captain. He’s one of your most experienced players.”.

Now even the likes of former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting have the back of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, saying that his return always implied that he will be back at the top, how good Rahul or Jaiswal will be at the top.

With so many experienced heads desiring to see Rohit Sharma at the top of the Indian innings, he should be featuring in the India 11 alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers in the Gabba test.
