For a long period of time now, the speculation has been high on charge as the internet has called on Rohit Sharma’s supposed move from the Mumbai Indians camp to the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL mega-auction in 2024.
In a very recent YouTube interview from Sports Yaari, Rohit Sharma emerged as one of the biggest possible options that can be sighted by teams like the Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and even the Punjab Kings.
To this Australian coaching legend Tom Moody, who had had immense success in a coaching role for both international and franchise-level teams, revealed how Rohit Sharma would be a major target for all, as many teams are in dire need of a skipper and Rohit Sharma is equally effective as a captain as well as an explosive batter at the top of the order.
“A lot of people will jump on Rohit Sharma; many teams need a captain. Rohit Sharma is one of the best captains ever, and we all know what he is capable of doing with the bat,” says Tom Moody on Rohit Sharma’s effectiveness in the IPL.
After the retention rules have set the bars for the retention of players at whopping prizes of 18 crores, 14 crores, 11 crores, and so on, many teams would not retain as many players, as they would look to fancy their chances in the auction with a more hefty purse as they enter the mega-auction with a seemingly bigger purse.
Rohit, if not retained, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav remain the options for the MI side for the role of a skipper, and the other player who might be retained will have the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and fine-rising Indian talent Tilak Varma.
Sharma, if he leaves the franchise, will end his 14-year-long legacy with the Mumbai Indians, as he has captained the side since 2013 and has also delivered 5 promising titles, thus emerging as IPL’s most exciting skipper. While he also has 257 matches under his belt with 6628 runs and has an amazing career strike rate of 135+.
