Moeen Ali, the England all-rounder who has represented the nation across all three formats of the game, in both red ball and white ball formats, has announced his retirement officially from international cricket.

“I’m 37 years old and didn’t get picked for this month’s Australia series,” Moeen said in a Daily Mail interview. “I’ve played a lot of cricket for England. It’s time for the next generation, which was also explained to me. It felt the time was right. I’ve done my part.”

Moeen Ali has been a star for the national side, but the all-rounder has been not picked for the upcoming Australia series which awaits them in the month. Moeen has shown this as an event of greatness, as he identifies that every game needs evolvement and hence newer generations of players need to be handed the opportunities.

Moeen Ali made his debut back in 2014, against the West Indies in the ODI cricket and later 2 weeks later he was brought in the T20I format against the same opponent. Since, then Moeen has been a constant part of the side, as he went on to feature for England in nearly 300 matches.

The 37-year-old has already been a part of England’s two World Cup-winning squads. In 2016, Moeen first played England’s World Cup final in India, as Brathwaite earned a historic win for West Indies. He was next part of the 2019 team to the World Cup, as Eoin Morgan led England to their first-ever title win in the history of the World Cup.

Then in 2022, Jos Buttler led England to a T20 World Cup title of which Moeen Ali was made one of the marquee players. He has scored 6678 runs while also picking up 366 wickets. He will hence be remembered in history as one of their greatest-ever all-rounder.

“Winning the Ashes and two World Cups was great, but from an individual point of view, it was my Test hat-trick against South Africa at the Oval to win us the game. And I’m proud to have the fastest T20 50 for England (16 balls vs. South Africa in 2022).”

Moeen said when asked about his greatest moment in the decade he starred for England

Moeen Ali has also been a very experienced cricket across global tournaments, as he has played for several franchise-level teams, like the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He also is about to make his CPL debut for the Guyana Amazon Warriors after he is named the replacement player.
