The coming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to get underway on October 3. This is the ninth edition of the tournament, and a total of ten teams will feature in this tournament. Bangladesh were given the hosting rights, but they are going through domestic turmoil.
It forced the ICC to shift the tournament to the UAE. Two groups are divided with five teams each, and two top teams from each group will make it to the semi-final. India’s women’s team are also taking part in this tournament.
India’s women’s team made to the finals of the seventh edition in 2020, which is their best so far. Hence, the Women in Blue will be looking to do even better this time around. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also announced a strong squad for the coming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
BCCI announces a 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
On Tuesday (August 27), the selection committee revealed India’s squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Harmanpreet Kaur will have the responsibility to lead India in the mega event, whereas Smriti Mandhana is her deputy. India have gone with a mix of young and experienced cricketers.
Yastika Bhatia and Shreyanka Patil are also part of the squad, but their availability depends on their fitness as they are recovering from an injury. Shreyanka, along with Asha Sobhana and Sajeevan Sajana, will feature in the maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for India.
India’s Women’s team made it to the finals of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, but they were unlucky to lose it against the host, Sri Lanka. The announced squad has familiar faces who have been part of the team for a while now.
India are in Group A with Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. They will start their campaign on October 4 with a game against New Zealand at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Women in Blue will play other games on October 6, 9, and 13 against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia.
