Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was seen paying respect to his skipper, as he stood and left the seat vacant for Rohit Sharma in the CEAT awards presentation.
The Instagram reel below indicates the same:
Shreyas Iyer had his first major outing in a big tournament which was the World Cup 2023 under the captaincy of skipper Rohit Sharma. Though India could not see it off, the tournament remains one of India’s most memorable tournaments and he has often credited the skipper for the same.
Also in the recent presentation of the CEAT Awards, Iyer was given a memento for his achievement as an IPL skipper to have led two different IPL teams to the finals. Ones that he led are Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 and 2024.
Shreyas Iyer will next be seen in the Duleep Trophy hoping for an Indian Red ball return
Iyer has made a quick comeback to the white ball format after Gautam Gambhir was appointed India’s head coach. Shreyas Iyer was undoubtedly one of India’s best batters in the World Cup and is also among the top 5 ICC rank holders for Team India across formats. Shreyas Iyer had a daring outing at the World Cup back in 2023, though he was seen off the BCCI’s annual contract next.

However, like many other players, even Shreyas has now been given a role to captain the Duleep Trophy side. He will be seen playing in the Duleep Trophy with players like Pant, Rahul, Jadeja, Suryakumar and many other performing players. Among them, only a standout performance might make a way for Iyer back into India’s red ball team ahead of the Bangladesh and New Zealand home series.
With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy also in sight the urge to perform well would be there for Iyer and his fellow players.
