Team India are currently participating in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They are doing well, and the Indian fans will be hoping that India might end their ICC trophy drought, which they have not won since 2013. Meanwhile, there is good news coming for Indian fans. Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to be back. India have a long summer ahead where they will play series against 6-7 teams. 

Shami has been out of action since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He was tremendous in that tournament and ended up being the leading wicket-taker. But after that, he went to surgery and is in rehab. He underwent an Achilles tendon surgery in February 2024. Now, Shami has started the net sessions, and he is working hard on his return for Team India.

Mohammed Shami has been the leader of the pack and has been India’s go-to bowler, along with Jasprit Bumrah, across three formats. The veteran pacer has always performed well at the international level. As per some media reports, Shami is likely to make his return in the home test series against Bangladesh. After the T20 World Cup 2024, India will travel to Zimbabwe for the five T20Is. This series will be played between July 6 and 14.

After that tour, India will host Bangladesh for two tests and three T20Is. The tour will start with two tests, starting on September 19. And if everything goes well, Mohammed Shami might return and play in the series. Chennai and Kanpur will host two tests. The pacer has played a total of 64 tests and taken 229 wickets at a strike rate of 50.2. However, there can be some doubts about his participation in white-ball, but he is India’s test team.

Team India will be playing ten tests ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. So, Mohammed Shami will have a big role to play for India. The Men in Blue are in the race for the final of the World Test Championship. India will host New Zealand for three tests and then the iconic Border Gavaskar Trophy, where India will travel to Australia for a five-match test series. Hence, India want Mohammed Shami to be fit for the test season.
