We are just a couple of days away from the start of the biggest cricket tournament in 2024. It is the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played in USA and West Indies, starting on June 1. The top 20 teams in the world have qualified for this mega event, and this will be the biggest edition of the T20 World Cup ever. The first round will see four groups with five sides each.
Two teams from every group will make it to the next round, which is the Super 8. Then, there will be two groups with four teams. Two teams from both groups will make it to the semi-finals. England will enter the tournament in order to defend their title, and they are one of the favourites to lift the trophy as well. Adding to that, many former cricketers, cricket pundits, and analysts believe that India have a strong chance to win the championship this time around. India have been the runner-up in the last two ICC events.
T20 World Cup 2024: Nathan Lyon picks Australia and Pakistan as the two finalists
The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in the USA and West Indies. The pitches here are expected to be slow and assist spinners a lot. That is why teams have gone with a spin-heavy attack. Team India have picked four spinners in their squad. Meanwhile, with no time left for the tournament to start, the predictions have begun. Everyone is predicting the top four teams for the coming tournament. The veteran Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon has also shared his opinions about it.
He has named two teams that are likely to play in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. In one of his latest interviews, he chose Australia and Pakistan to be the finalists for the upcoming event. Lyon said, “These are my 2024 cricket predictions. For the T20 final teams, Australia, obviously, because I’m quite biassed towards them. I’m going to go with Pakistan. In those conditions, they have quality spin bowlers but also electric batters like Babar Azam.”
Pakistan are in Group A with India, the USA, Ireland, and Canada, while Australia are Group B with Oman, England, Namibia, and Scotland. Mitchell Marsh and Babar Azam will lead Australia and Pakistan, respectively. Pakistan came very close in the last edition, but they lost the final against England. However, they have added the likes of Mohammed Amir and Imad Wasim to their squad to do well this time around. Meanwhile, Australia have a great team and are the favorite in the T20 World Cup 2024.
