After the announcement of the India squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup, the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made a bold claim that she and her team would “want to give the country another reason to celebrate this year.”
The skipper clearly wanted her team to draw inspiration from their men’s team that made the chests of Indians swell up with their T20 World Cup triumph in 2024.
The Women’s T20 World Cup, which was earlier scheduled to be played in Bangladesh, has been officially moved to the UAE. The Indian women’s team is yet to lift the T20 World Cup, as their best-ever results came in 2020 in Australia, where they ended as the runners-up to the hosts.

India’s latest best performance across tournaments
Indian women’s side were seen playing the ODI World Cup final for the first time in 2017, where they lost an iconic final at Lord’s by just nine runs. They then went to the finals of the T20 World Cup in 2020, when they lost to Australia again by nine runs.
Their next closest finish came in the Commonwealth Games, where despite going past the likes of big teams, they lost to Australia again in Birmingham.
In the last T20 World Cup as well, Team India under skipper Harmanpreet marched into the semi-finals and again had to feature against the Aussie women, while they lost again by just 5 runs.
The Asia Cup is where Team India has been the team with an unbeaten legacy, as they lost to a much weaker Sri Lankan team in the finals of the T20 Asia Cup.
India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup
India is grouped under Group A, which also has the likes of teams like Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Pakistan. India will face serious trouble against long rivals Australia, and also Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka will put them under great pressure.
The World Cup is scheduled to start on the 3rd of October in Sharjah, while India kicks off its campaign on October 4th against New Zealand, and the match against Pakistan is scheduled to be held on October 6th.
They take on Sri Lanka on the 9th, and then they travel to Sharjah after having played their initial matches in Dubai to face the mighty Aussies. After the round-robin group stages, the semis are scheduled on the 17th and 18th of October, while the final will be in Dubai on the 20th of the same month.
