Here is a look at the top performances by Indian Batters in South Africa.

India tour of South Africa 2021 will begin on 26th December. The first test of the India tour of South Africa 2021 is the boxing day test. Indian batsmen are always expected to struggle against the pace and bounce in South Africa. The Indian cricket team is expected to face these challenges in the India tour of South Africa 2021. But there have been several amazing batting performances over the years from Indian batsmen. Here is a look at the top 5 batting performances by Indians in South Africa:

Sachin Tendulkar, 169 Runs of 254 Balls, 1997, 2nd Test:

This was the first tour of the Indian Cricket Team to South Africa. The batsmen had very little experience of playing on South African soil. It was the second test match of the series. The first match of the series was won by South Africa. Sachin was exceptional with the bat. However, his performance came in a losing cause. In his inning, Sachin scored around 50 percent of the team’s total runs. Sachin was also helped by Mohammad Azharuddin.

Virender Sehwag, 105 Runs of 173 Balls, 2001, 1st Test:

A young lad from Delhi doesn’t always score a hundred on debut. Virendra Sehwag scored this crucial knock-on debut. He attacked the South African bowlers with ease. The bounce and pace of the South African pacers favored the Nawab of Najafgarh. He was expressive and his intent was clear.

Wasim Jaffer, 116 Runs of 244 Balls, 2006, 3rd Test:

Wasim Jaffer is not a very stylish batsman. He is not flashy or a showboat. But when it comes to class, Wasim Jaffer has that! His hundred in this inning just proves that. He showed that test cricket has to be played with patience. His drives on the loose balls were illustrious.

Cheteshwar Pujara, 153 Runs of 270 Balls, 2013, 1st Test:

Cheteshwar Pujara, the wall of Indian cricket has earned this title. His innings of 153 in the 2013 series just justifies his excellence. Cheteshwar Pujara knew where his off-stump was. He left the balls bowled outside off-stump very well. Pujara also played the short balls very well.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Hardik Pandya, 93 Runs of 95 Balls, 2017-2018, 1st Test.
  • Sachin Tendulkar, 146 Runs of 314 Balls, 2011, 3rd Test.

Virat Kohli, 153 Runs of 217 Balls, 2017-2018, 2nd Test:

This knock of Virat Kohli has to be on top. Where every other batsman failed to come to more than 30 runs Virat scored a big hundred. This inning proved Virat’s skill to play the short ball and balls outside the off-stump. He attacked all the loose balls and made sure to keep the scoreboard ticking. His cover drives were a treat to watch.
