The IPL 2025 mega-auction will be the first of its kind, with the grandeur being restored from the very first edition of the IPL in 2008. Reportedly, the BCCI’s IPL governing committee has fixed Riyadh to be the venue for the mega-auction, as history will be created.
Also, some reports from Express Sports have suggested that tentatively the IPL auction is scheduled to be held on November 24th and 25th, while this will be the second time the auction will be held outside India. The first one was held in Dubai.
The BCCI has been planning this event very thoroughly, while under Jay Shah’s reign as the board secretary, several officials have conducted preliminary assessments of the probable venues in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
Primarily several international locations, like Dubai, the hosts of the previous auction, Singapore, and also Vienna in Austria, were considered for the auction. Riyadh surpassing all these entered as the major venue, which now seems confirmed.
Every IPL franchise went on to announce their retention lists on Thursday, that is, the 31st of October. Including all franchises, a total of 46 players have been retained for an overall combined purse of 558.5 crores, while a huge purse of INR 641.5 crores will be taken by all the franchises to Riyadh.
Very interesting among the retention period, they have retained 36 Indian players with only 10 players of foreign origin despite the IPL committee taking the limitations over the retention of a number of overseas talent.
Several big names like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Mohammad Shami, Yuzu Chahal, Faf du Plessis, Marcus Stoinis, Jos Buttler, Glenn Maxwell, and QDK will enter the mega-auction.
The IPL mega-auction might overlap with India’s first test against Australia, the series, which now seems a very crucial juncture in the WTC race for team India. The first test is scheduled to be played in Perth from the 22nd of November, while the auction is reported to be held on the 24th and 25th of November. The official confirmation is yet awaited by the franchises.
