IPL 2023: BCCI in a Fix over IPL 2023 Dates. Possible Clash with WTC Final. Concern Over Availability of Players.

IPL 2023 Update

The BCCI is in a fix over the IPL 2023 dates. The dates are expected to almost clash with the WTC final. With IPL 2023 being a two-month long event, there is a possibility of a clash over between the two events. The IPL 2023 begins in March and will end in the
last week of May. The concern is that the ICC does not allow the players to play franchise cricket at least 7 days prior to the final. Here is an in-depth look at what the officials had to say:

A look at what the officials had to say over IPL 2023 dates:

“We will try to avoid any potential clash with the World Test Championship final. We understand that there could potentially be a problem over availability of players. We know the rules of the ICC and are discussing on the start and end dates. We haven’t finalized both the dates but plan to start the IPL in March and end in in the last week of May.”, a BCCI official had to say when enquired whether the BCCI was aware about the rules.
The main issues of the BCCI are as follows:
· The date of the WTC is 7th of June.
· The ICC doesn’t allow any league or franchise sport to be played at least 7 days prior.
· This means that the IPL needs to be wrapped up by 30th of May.
· Player’s availability will still remain a concern.

Australian and South African Players Retained in the IPL 2023:

There are several South African and Australian players who have been retained. These are the two nations that will possibly play the final. India is also at number 3 in the WTC table and have an outside chance if a few results work in their favor. Players like Warner, Cummins, and Hazlewood are a crucial part of the Australian team. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi are also a part of the IPL. Rassie Van Der Dussen and Anrich Nortje also have their contracts.

If India qualifies, senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah will have to be released early. Rishabh Pant will also not be available as the BCCI will manage his workload. Mohammed Shami of Gujarat Titans will also not be available, in that case. To know more go to Indian Cricket Team: Top 3 Players Who Can Make it to the Indian Cricket Team Very Soon.
