IPL 2023 Update: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to organize the auction program of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the IPL 2023 edition in mid-December, the last month of the year 2022.
The tentative schedule is being discussed among the franchises, who have recently received a hint from the BCCI and IPL officials during informal talks.
The TATA IPL 2023 auction will be a mini-auction but the venue is yet to be decided. The dates for the IPL 2023 event are still not known but it is likely to start in the fourth week of March with the restoration of the home and away format.
The total amount up for auction this year will be Rs 95 crore, an increase of Rs 5 crore over last year, which means that each team will have at least Rs 5 crore in reserves initially. If a franchise releases or trades in its players, the purse can go up even more.
After the 15th season of IPL 2022, when the management of Chennai Super Kings and alleged differences with Ravindra Jadeja fueled speculation that the star all-rounder would be shifted to another team or released. Recent reports also suggested a trade between CSK and Gujarat Titans for Jadeja and Shubman Gill.
Reportedly, some other teams have been requested to trade Jadeja, Delhi Capitals being one of them. But the CSK management has said it has no plans to part ways with all-rounder Ravindra, arguably one of the best in the world.
Sourav Ganguly writes about IPL format
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly has written to the state associations that the IPL 2023 will be back to the normal home and away model and also spoke of women’s IPL. “The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” the BCCI president said in a letter to the state units.
The last three IPLs have been confined to fewer centres – the 2022 edition was in Mumbai and Pune, in 2021, it was in a few centres in India initially and later in the UAE and the 2020 IPL was totally held in UAE.
On the women’s IPL, Ganguly said: “The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year. More details on this will follow in due course.”
