IND vs AUS: Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has faced recent struggles with his batting form, often failing to make significant contributions. This inconsistency has become a subtle point of worry for the Indian side. Former cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Cheteshwar Pujara shed light on the current batting form of Rohit Sharma.

During the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, Rohit Sharma missed the first Test match in Perth due to the birth of his second child. He did a comeback into the team before the Adelaide Test but scored only 3 (1st inning) and 6 (2nd inning). Analysts and fans are wondering if this is a temporary dip in his performance or if it signals a longer-term issue.

The Indian captain also struggled to make his mark during New Zealand’s historic 3-0 away win in India last month, failing to deliver impactful performances with the bat in the series. His inability to anchor the innings or build substantial partnerships highlighted the ongoing challenges in his form. This raised questions about his consistency, especially in crucial series where his leadership and batting are vital for the team’s success.

“When such a big player doesn’t score runs, it will become a slight cause for concern. We know that Rohit has great ability and has scored a lot of runs for India. However, he didn’t score runs in this match and the previous series as well. When the runs are not scored, the pressure comes on the batter.”

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh opened up on Rohit Sharma

“We don’t want the Indian captain to have the pressure of scoring his own runs, as it could affect his captaincy as well. We hope that he comes back to form. The conditions at other venues like Brisbane might suit him more. He needs to leave this match behind and think about what better can be done going forward and how the team can play better because the team is more important than his form.” the former spinner added.

It is clearly visible that Rohit Sharma’s poor form with the bat has clearly impacted his captaincy, making it harder for him to lead effectively and set an example for the team.

“He (Rohit) got out Ibw in the first innings and opened up his stance in the second innings, so he got bowled there. He will have to work a little more on that line because, from the same spot, he is getting Ibw to the ball that is coming in and bowled to the ball that is going away.”

Cheteswar Pujara added

“There is a slight concern. As an Indian fan, I want Rohit to regain his form as quickly as possible. As Bhajju pa (Harbhajan) said, the captain’s batting is very important because it affects his captaincy as well. I am slightly concerned with the way Rohit is getting out.”
