ENG vs SL: England are competing in the test series, as they have already won the first two tests that were destined to be played at Old Trafford and Lord’s. The third test was not as unique for the England team, as they faced a second-inning collapse as Lahiru Kumara and Vishwa Fernando broke through the defense of the English batters.

Even the likes of one of the best batters in Ollie Pope the centurion from the first innings and the inform Joe Root failed in the innings, all thanks to Jamie Smith’s quickfire half-century, which helped England pose a target of 219 runs in front of the Sri Lankan team.

The Lankans have had a confident start and in the middle of all are ready to avoid a series sweep; however, the series has already shown us many such collapses, which have been elemental, and hence chances of England’s win cannot be wiped out.

Amidst all, England genius Joe Root has performed stunningly recently and has been the best-performing batter among the Fab4. Root has scored eminent runs in the last 4 years since 2020. His form has taken him to 17 international test match hundreds in the last 4 years to emerge as England’s highest centurion in the longest format of the game with 34 hundred, as he surpassed the likes of former captain Alastair Cook.

Joe Root has been placed as the batter by several greats like Ricky Ponting, who can be trusted as the batter to break the seemingly unbreakable record of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar has 15921 runs in the format, while Root now has 12402 runs, as he remains 3500 runs behind the great batter.

However, Root recently became the 6th highest run-getter in tests, as he surpassed the great Kumara Sangakara, who has 12400 runs. Next in line would be Alastair Cook, who has 12472 runs in his career and is England’s highest test run-getter. He might be overtaken by Root if he continues his brilliance in the upcoming tours as well.

Next in the count for the English side is the Pakistan tour, which is to be held in October, while next after the Pakistan tour, the English side will be next seen in the New Zealand tour, which is probably their last chance to enter the WTC final, though chances keep getting thinner.
