Dinesh Karthik, in a recent interview with Cricbuzz, excluded Jasprit Bumrah from being India’s all-format captain, as he picked the likes of Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill for the role as a future prospect.
All of these three players have previously been seen in the role of a skipper for the national side, as either Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, or even the Test vice captain for India; Bumrah has been seen earlier in the role of a captain.
Shubman Gill was last seen in the role of a skipper for the first time, against the Zimbabwe team in the series as they went on to claim a victory over the team 4-1.
Jasprit Bumrah made a return to the game in 2023 with the T20s against Ireland, where he was also seen captaining the Indian team for the first time. Next, Bumrah was set as the vice-captain of the side in the World Cup after Pandya was ruled out due to injury.
Gill has recently been appointed as the T20I and the ODI vice-captain, which makes him the option for India as Rohit and Surya’s deputy.
Rishabh Pant is making a return to the longest format of the game after a tenure of 634 days, as he was ruled out of cricket for over 2 years. He was seen as the Team India skipper in a T20I series against South Africa in 2022 when the assigned skipper, KL Rahul, was seen off his role due to an injury.
